What it's all about

Rejuvenate your body and mind at Dance In the Park – an hour-long, outdoor dance class set on soft grass with a backdrop of sea and sky.  Great music.  Simple dance routines.  Fun and laughter.  No experience needed.

We’re taking our popular Mature Dance class outdoors to celebrate the verve and energy of spring.  You’ll learn several short dance routines in different styles that will get your heart rate up and feel good endorphins flowing.  Designed specifically for people over 50, this class will show you that it’s never too late to start or return to dance and enjoy the benefits of improved balance, coordination, flexibility, strength, focus, mindfulness, memory, and happiness.

Lead by Move Through Life founder, Jo McDonald, you’ll discover that dance is a great way to move to music, and connect with other people who love to dance. The routines are based on the kind of things we do in our Mature Dance classes, which combine dance styles like jazz, contemporary, Latin, and folk dance to get in tune with your body, exercise your mind, and have a good time.

Who should come

It will be a great day to come out and dance, along with your family and friends, and simply enjoy the happiness that dance brings.  While we are all about supporting adults to keep dancing throughout their lives, you can still bring your kids on the day so they can join in as well.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve danced before or not, or if you are 18 or 80 years old. We just want to see you moving, laughing, connecting with others, enjoying the music, and realising that it doesn’t matter what age you are or how long since you’ve last danced, you can still have dance in your life.

What to wear & bring

Wear something comfortable and easy to move in (like what you usually wear for exercise) and bring a pair of comfy shoes (something with a flexible sole like a sneaker).  Don’t forget the sunscreen and some water.  A hat might be a good idea as well.

Bookings & cost

We can only have less than 50 people at the event (due to permit restrictions), so you will need to book and pay $5 (the payment amount really is just to make sure that people who book do turn up, so we don’t get a booked out event with lots of no shows, which would mean other people who would have turned up miss out).

Dancing with like-minded people is always a joy. But the class is usually held in a hall or room of some sort. What better than having a dance experience out of doors, for a fun, healthy change?  Which is exactly what happened last Sunday. It was a perfect autumnal day, with groups of people enjoying the park and the smell of salty sea in the air. Wearing casual dance clothing, soft soled footwear, hats, sunglasses and sunburn cream, we went through our warm-ups and routines and had a great afternoon.
