Join us to Dance in the Park for International Dance Day
Sunday 29 April is International Dance Day ...
... and we're celebrating with a Dance in the Park
What it’s all about
It is a day dedicated to celebrating all things dance, so here at Move Through Life, we’d like to celebrate by taking a dance class outside and inviting you to join us.
You’ll discover that it’s never too late to start or return to dance by learning several easy dance routines. Who cares if you make mistakes? Just do it your way. It’s all about having fun while getting a low-impact workout.
Lead by the founder of Move Through Life, Jo McDonald, you’ll discover that dance is a great way to move to music, and connect with other people who love to dance. The routines are based on the kind of things we do in our Mature Dance classes, which combine dance styles like jazz, contemporary, Latin, and folk dance to get in tune with your body, exercise your mind, and have a good time.
When & where
So from 2-4pm on Sunday 29 April, you can join us at the John Miller Reserve (corner of The Esplanade and Whyte Street in Somerton Park) to get moving, and learn a few simple and fun dance routines.
Who should come
It will be a great day to come out and dance, along with your family and friends, and simply enjoy the happiness that dance brings. While we are all about supporting adults to keep dancing throughout their lives, you can still bring your kids on the day so they can join in as well.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve danced before or not, or if you are 18 or 80 years old. We just want to see you moving, laughing, connecting with others, enjoying the music, and realising that it doesn’t matter what age you are or how long since you’ve last danced, you can still have dance in your life.
What to wear & bring
Wear something comfortable and easy to move in (like what you usually wear for exercise) and bring a pair of comfy shoes (something with a flexible sole like a sneaker). Don’t forget the sunscreen and some water. A hat might be a good idea as well.
Bookings & cost
We can only have less than 50 people at the event (due to permit restrictions), so you will need to book and pay $5 (the payment amount really is just to make sure that people who book do turn up, so we don’t get a booked out event with lots of no shows, which would mean other people who would have turned up miss out).
If you’ve got questions, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or give Anne a call on 0408 240 772.
What others say about dancing with Move Through Life
“Since discovering dance in my ‘mature’ years, I’ve loved going along every week to move and groove to great music, meet new fun-loving people and keep my body and mind fit and healthy. So glad I don’t have to go to the gym to keep active!”
“I think of dance classes as exercise by stealth …. you’re having way too much fun to think about your mind and body getting fit.”
“I always feel happier and healthier after a dance class. My dance class gets me through the week!”
“Dance makes me feel energised, rain or shine I’m there. It’s not just dance that has been opened up again for me but music and laughter in the classes are a fantastic feel good rush that lasts the rest of the day.”
