Tell us about your early dance journey?  Where did you start and what did you do as a child?

I started dance when I was 5 in Townsville and fell in love with it straight away. I did Jazz and Tap as a child.

What is your earliest memory of dance?

My earliest memory is one of my first dance concerts. I was so nervous but so excited and just loved being on stage.

What have been some standout moments/achievements you’ve had with dance?

I was a student teacher from the age of 10. I danced in the Yosakoi festival traveling around Japan when I was 17. Starting my own dance school in 2011.

What is your favourite thing about performing?

Performing lights me up from the inside. I love that I can captivate an audience and tell them a story, make them feel emotions and entertain them.

What dance styles are you most drawn to?

Burlesque and Jazz

What do you prefer – class, rehearsal, or performance, and why?

Performance, I get showcase all my hard work and captivate an audience.

What for you is the most challenging and most rewarding aspect of dance?

The most challenging for me now is realising that my body can’t do things it used to and that’s ok. Working out how to dance with limits and still captivate and audience.

What are your dance goals, dreams, or aspirations?

My dream would be to teach, perform and create choreography regularly and inspire other people to follow their dreams in life.

Who inspires you (they can be dance or not dance related)

My daughter inspires me. If she can see me following my dreams then I hope I inspire her to do the same one day.

What keeps you motivated when you are tired, discouraged, or down?

Listening to music.

Why did you decide to audition for the MTL Performing Company?

I LOVE what they stand for and have always wanted to perform in the Fringe.

What is your favourite thing about being part of the MTL Performing Company?

That I can be a mature dancer and not have the skills I used to and that’s ok. Everyone is accepted as they are and if you love to dance then you can dance with MTL.

What always makes you laugh?

Dad jokes and my daughter.

What hobbies do you have outside of dance?

Singing, going to the beach, camping, animals and hiking.

What is your ‘day job’? (could be working, studying, volunteering etc)

I own a dance school for kids.
